NORTH-EAST VALLEY CRICKET CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING The sixteenth annual general meeting of the N.E.V. Cricket Club was held in the Gardens pavilion last evening, the president, Mr 6. Newey, being in the chair. There was a fair attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the annual report, the Chairman referred to the high standard all the teams had attained during the past season, and he hoped this would continue in the coming season. He had to congratulate the various average winners, and asked, all the older members to take more interest in the game and help the young players. The winners of the averages were as follow:—lntermediate batting, W. Faithful; bowling T. Hughes; second grade batting, G. Lawry; bowling,
J. Anderson; third grade batting, C. Cadman; bowling, B. Gillespie. Mr A. E. Ansell congratulated the club on the position it held during the previous season, and said the younger players should be helped. He offered a trophy for competition during the coming season. Mr R. Oxley, in moving the adoption of the balance sheet, said that the club was in a very sound position this year, having no liabilities and a credit cash balance. OFFICERS. The election of office-bearers for the season resulted as follows; —Patron, Mr A. E. Ansell; president, Mr G. Newey; vice-presidents, Messrs C. Clausen, H. Bunn, G. Stewart, W. Armstrong, E. Legerwood, P. Rylance, J. Houston, W, Brown, W. Renton, D. Leech. G. Ansell, R. Reid; club captain, Mr R. Peart; secretary, Mr 6. Anderson; assistant secretary, Mr J. Anderson: treasurer. Mr R. Oxley; practice captains, Messrs R. Jones and J. Anderson; committee—Messrs A. M'Clintock, T. Hughes, \V. Wallace, E. Vivian. W. Hughes; selectors, Messrs R. Jones and W. Hughes; delegate to 0.C.A., Mr A. E. Ansell; delegate to 0.5.P.A., Mr Anderson; hon. auditors, Messrs H. Cullen and D, Waller. GENERAL Mr Ferguson, who represented the 0.C.A., thanked the club for the invitation to be present, and congratulated the committee on having such a creditable balance sheet. He advised the club to consider using the Opoho ground for matches, this iplaying area having excellent light. This matter was left in the hands of the incoming committee. The offer of a prize suitable for competition was made by the president and was accepted with thanks. On the motion of Mr Ansell, the secretary was thanked for his services during the last few years. The credit balance which the club possessed was largely due to his efforts. The opening day was fixed for October 3.
