AWATEA’S SPEED
FIVE-HOUR TRIAL TASMAN CROSSING IN UNDER TWO AND A-HALF DAYS TPer United Press Association.] AUCKLAND. September 17. Several Union Company directors were passengers from Wellington to Auckland by the Awatea. To demonstrate that the claims made for the vessel are justified a five-hour speed trial was held up the coast, and this showed that the Awatea will have no difficulty in making the Tasman crossing in even less time than the two and a-half days which have been allowed. Her speed during the trial with a reserve of power easily exceeded the equivr’ at of the fastest time ever made between New Zealand and Australia.
