At Oxhey in the British professional match play championship the first round matches resulted as follows: Fadgham (holder) heat Williams, 7 and 6. R. A. Whitcombe beat Land, 1 up. Lacey beat Branch, *2 and 1. E. R. Whitcombe beat Davies, 3 and 2. Havers beat Hooker, 2 up. Alliss beat Bright, 5 and 8. C. A. Whitcombe beat Large, 4 and 3. Cox beat T. Perry, 4 and 3. Cotton beat Adams at the twentieth. 0. Ezar beat Sam King, 3 and 2. Cotton and Adams had a terrific fight. Cotton was out in 34 to stand 2 up. Adams squared at the sixteenth. He overdrove the green at the twentieth, Cotton winning with 4 against 5. Ezar -is the first American ever to compete at this tournament.
