UNSETTLED AND SQUALLY The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton. Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon BayA deep depression is crossing th* central portion of the Dominion, and a secondary is advancing over the Tasman Sea on to the southern districts. Pressure has risen considerably over Eastern Australia. Forecast.—Strong westerly winds to gales, backing to southerlies. Weather cold, unsettled, and squally, with rain, and, on the ranges, snow and hail probable in places. Seas rough to high. RAIN DEVELOPS. Mild temperatures’last evening _ dim placed the cold conditions of the afternoon, and this morning some sunshino was apparent, the weather being fine. Later in the morning the sky became heavily overcast, accompanied by a gradual fall in the barometric pressure from 29.6 in yesterday at noon to 29.35 in at the same time to-day. A light north-easterly wind was also in evidence this morning. There has been little change in the temperature readings since yesterday, when the registrations over a 24-hour period .were 56.6 deg maximum and 42.4 deg minimum, the corresponding readings at 12.30 p.m. to-day being 59.9 deg and. 53deg. Indications at noon were for a change to unsettled conditions, and by 1.15 p.m. rain had fallen.
