COAL INDUSTRY DISPUTES
SETTLEMENT EXPECTED [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 16. Proposals for a settlement of the recent troubles in the coal mining industry were made at a conference between representatives of the owners and the miners in Wellington to-day, and the miners’ delegates have now returned to submit these to the men. Until this is done the result of the conference will not bo known, but it was stated to-night that there is every reason to believe that a satisfactory settlement will be made. A stoppage occurred at Huntly on Monday, when the truckers at the Rotowaro mine refused to work threequarters of the shift. The stoppage was caused by information of a stop-work meeting which it is understood was called to discuss rates of pay for certain work.
