CRICKET UMPIRES.

THE YEAR'S OPERATIONS The annual report of the Otago Cricket Umpires’ Association states inter alia:— It is with pleasure that we again record an increase in the membership of the association. There is still room for more members, and the committee trusts that the clubs will do their best to induce their older members to join the association. Umpires were provided for all senior and intermediate matches, whilst umpires were appointed for several important junior matches. Members of the association were appointed by the New Zealand Cricket Council to officiate in the Wellington v. Otago Plunket Shield match, and also the Otago v. M.C.C. match. The members also controlled. the Otago v. Southland and Otago v. North Otago matches, whilst Mr R. C. Torrance had tho honour of officiating in the Wellington v. Auckland Plunket Shield final at Wellington. Messrs R. C. Torrance and W. Butler were appointed to officiate in the New Zealand v. M.C.C. match played at Dunedin. Members were again entrusted with the awarding of the points for the fielding cup, and at the end of the season the Grange and Albion teams tied with most points. The association has a credit balance of £6 6s 6d. -'he committee would express its thanks to the senior clubs who assisted us financially. The Wellington Umpires’ Association is circularising tne various umpires’ associations with the object of forming a New Zealand Umpires’ Association. The question will be placed before members at the meeting. To the clubs for providing afternoon tea for the umpires we extend our thanks, and to the Press we are grateful for assistance at all times..
