GOOD SELECTION AND ACTIVE DEMAND CROSS-BREDS UP IN PRICE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, September 15. (Received September 16, at 11.30 a.m.) The wool sales opened with good Bradford and Continental competition. A total of 10.630 bales was offered, of which 5,241 were New Zealand. Altogether 9,063 bales were sold. There was a good selection and active demand, except for low greasies, which were frequently withdrawn. Good clearances were ■ effected, the Home trade securing the bulk of the merinos, which were unchanged. Cross-breds fine were 5 per cent, up, and coarse 5 to 10 per cent, dearer than the closing prices of last series. New Zealand scoured merinos, “ HM/Oxford,” top price 24d, average 22|d; slipe half-bred lambs, “ Belfast,” IBid and 144 d. AGENTS’ REPORTS, Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. Ltd. have received the following wool market cablegram from their London agents, Messrs Sanderson, Murray, and Elder Ltd., dated the 15th inst.:— “ The sales have opened with a good tone, and competition keen. Bradford are principal buyers, Continental buyers doing almost nothing. Compared with last London sales closing rates for greasy merino (a poor selection offered), wool suitable for Yorkshire, par to 5 per cent, advance; wool suitable for the Continent, par to 6 per cent, decline; scoured merino, market firm; crossbred greasy fine, advanced 5 per cent.; cross-bred greasy medium, advanced 5 per cent, to 7\ per cent.; cross-bred greasy coarse advanced 5 per cent.; cross-bred scoured, advanced 5 per cent.; slipe cross-bred, advanced 5 per cent, to 7J per cent.” Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd., have received the following cable from head office, London:— “ The wool sales opened with a good attendance, average selection, and good general competition. As compared with closing rates of last series: Greasy merino and scoured merino, unchanged; greasy half-breds, Id to 3d higher; scoured half-breds, unchanged ; greasy cross-bred, fine, Jd higher; greasy cross-bred, medium and coarse, 3d to_ Id higher; scoured crossbreds and slipes, Id to Id higher. The National Mortgage and Agency Co. of New Zealand Ltd., has received the following cable from its London office, under date 15th instant;— “ The auctions opened here to-day with a large attendance of home and Continental buyers, and good general competition, particularly home trade. Compared with the closing rates of last sale we quote: Greasy merino (best), no change; greasy merino (average), no change; greasy half-breds, 50-565, 4d dearer; greasy half-breds, 48-50 s, id to Jd dearer; greasy cross-breds, 46-48 s, Id to jd dearer; greasy cross-breds, 44-465, id to 3d dearer; greasy cross-breds, 40445, id to 3d dearer; greasy crossbreds, 36-40 s, id to 3d dearer. Scoured merino, good demand, prices firm; half-bred lamb, super., par to 5 per cent, higher; medium and coarse slipes, 5 per cent, higher. As at present arranged, the sales will close on September 25.” The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited, Dunedin, has received the following cable from London under date 15th instant: —“ There was a good attendance at the opening of the sales. The opening catalogues were representativecompetition by home buyers being active. As compared with the last sales closing rates, prices are about the same for merino; higher id to Id per lb for cross-bred.” ' The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office, under date 15th mst.- “ The sales have opened with strong competition and a large attendance. There was an active demand trom home and foreign buyers. _ Compared with the close of last senes merinos are unchanged: fine aross-breds are id higher, and medium and coarse cross-breds are id to ,fd higher.”
