TARIFF DISPUTE
AUSTRALIA AND JAPAN AGREEMENT NOT LIKELY. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright TOKIO, September 15. The Press reports that the Australian Consul, Mr Mural, will reject the Australian trade proposals and insist on an agreement for bartering rayons and cottons for wool. It is stated that an agreement is now unlikely. ANOTHER DEADLOCK. CANBERRA, September 15. The trade negotiations between Australia and Japan are believed to have reached a deadlock again, Japan insisting on a substantial reduction of duties on artificial silk and cotton piece goods, which the Commonwealth is not prepared to grant. BOYCOTT TO CONTINUE. TOKIO, September 15. (Received September 16, at 10 a.ra.) Importers have decided to continue the boycott on Australian wool owing to dissatisfaction with the Australian attitude towards the negotiations. Importers are conferring on September 18 to formulate plans concerning securing imports from other sources.
