OBITUARY
MISS ESTHER KEMPSHELL Through the death on Sunday of Miss Esther Kempshell, the Taieri has lost a very much-esteemed resident. The family has held Weston Lodge since 1860, and since her birth there Miss Kempshell has resided continuously until quite recently, loved and admired by all. The deceased lady was educated at the local school. She resided on the farm until a few years ago, when, finding the duties too arduous, she went to live with her sister and brother-in-law (Mr and Mrs Andrew Carruthers). She was a great lover of well-bred stock, and a thoroughly capable fanner as well as housewife. In her earlier years she was a noted competitor m the homo industries section at shows, bqking and butter making particularly. Her fancy butter was always a work of art, and was never equalled. On one occasion a display of her work was taken to London and exhibited in the office of the High Commissioner tor New Zealand. She was closely associated with church and Sunday school, and all other activities of the district in her younger days. Her hospitality was well known. She will be ver,y much missed in the home from which she has gone by those who knew and loved her. At the time of her death she still held the farm originally owned by her father, who' was a noted Shorthorri breeder of the early days. The funeral took place yesterday at West Taieri. MR FRANK BREMNER Mosgiel has lost a worthy citizen through the death of Mr Frank Bremner. He was the youngest son of the late Mrs Margaret Ballantyne and the late_ Mr Francis Bremner, one of the earlier residents of Mosgiel, and well known in Otago. Mr Bremner was a carpenter and joiner by trade, having been apprenticed to the late Mr J. E. Jago, In later years he worked for the Otago Education Board, building several of the schools in Otago. Leaving this employment, he entered into business on his own account, which he carried on until his death. For the past five years he had been in poor health. His widow, two daughters, and four sons survive him.
