“CONDUCT OF A CAD”

MAN TRIES TO KISS GIRL For trying to kiss a girl stated to be a ward in Chancery, while in a first class railway carriage, Adam John Watson Alexander, aged 28, stockbroker’s clerk, was at Kingston, Surrey, fined £5, with 15gs costs. Prosecuting for the Southern Railway, the Hon. Douglas Mestou told the magistrates that the girl was alone in the carriage travelling between Waterloo and Guildford on the night of July 10. Alexander got into the carriage at Wimbledon. It was alleged that he started to annoy the girl. He tried to kiss her, and threw her to the floor. She bit him, and after a struggle managed to pull the communication cord. The train stopped at Berrylands Station, ami the guard got into the carriage and accompanied the girl to Surbiton Station, where a complaint was made against Alexander. Mr Laurence Vine, defending, stated that Alexander had hitherto borne an unblemished character. He was a Territorial, and a member of a tennis club. Alexander had been to a cinema during the evening in question and had some drink, which probably affected him. Fie desired to offer his deepest apologies to the girl. His conduct, which he deeply regretted, had been that of a ead. He would never forget the escapade. Giving the decision of the bench, the presiding magistrate told Alexander that he had had a very narrow escape from going to gaol.
