PLAYBOX PLAYERS
Mr Russell-Wood and his Playhox Players deserve praise for their courage and pertinacity in producing so colossal a work as Stephen Phillips’s great tragedy, 1 T’aolo and l-’ranccsca,’ which will be staged on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings next at the Playhox Theatre, in Stuar.t street. Several experienced players are prominently cast, and others are expected to do well in smaller but important parts. ‘ Paolo and Francesca ’ was first produced by Sir George Alexander at St. James Theatre, London, in 1902, when Evelyn Millard appeared as Francesca, Henry Ainley as Paolo, and Sir George Alexander as Giovanni. The cast for the Playhox presentation will include Violet Livingston, Doreen Rhodes, Helen Earle Johnson, Treena Speight, Leila Greenall, Parmea Elston, Linda Bain, Charles Tobin, Les'ie Pithie, Kenneth Donaldson, Leo Manning, Guy Abbott, James Walker, and lan M'Narey.
