STRIKERS RETURN TO SURFACE FAILURE OF PIT LIGHTS Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, September 14. The Blantyre stay-in strikers returned to the surface yesterday and were greeted with cheers by 5,000 symwho walked to the pit gates and carried them home shoulder high. The men stated that they were forced to surrender owing to the failure of the pit lights. They maintained their spirits underground by singing to the accompaniment of a tin can band. One said: “Seven slices of bread is all that I have had since Thursday.”
