RAIN DEVELOPING IN SOUTH The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton. Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— An anti-cyclone is covering the northern portion of the Dominion, but the first of a series of westerly depressions is advancing across the South Tasman Sea. Forecast: Moderate _to strong north-westerly winds, reaching gale force in places. Weather fair at first, but clouding over, and rain developing in western and southern parts, and extending later to scattered places elsewhere. Temperatures mild. Seas rough south of Nugget Point; elsewhere moderate. WARM AND SUNNY. An advance in the temperature readings_ was noted yesterday, when the maximum was 61deg and the minimum SS.ldeg over a period of 24 hours. Last evening a frost of Ideg formed, and the morning broke fine and warm, with bright sunshine, in Dunedin. A light north-westerly wind was in evidence, but had no appreciable effect in lowering the temperatures, which had reached the high levels of 68.5 deg and 59deg. the highest since April 18. at 12.30 p.m. A steady barometric pressure of 29. Gin was registered at noon. Indications were for a warm and sunny afternoon at 12.30 p.m.
