MISUSED FOOTPATHS
ST. HILDA COMPLAINTS ACTH3N TO BE TAKEN Cases of the borough pootpaths being ill-used were reported by members of the St. Kilda Council at the fortnightly meeting last night, and it was decided to take action in the matter. Bicycle riding on the footpaths early in the morning was becoming too prevalent, said Or J. A. Carman who introduced the matter. Only recently there had been a case of a child being knocked down by a cyclist who was riding on the _ footpath. He thought that some action should be taken to prevent the practice. Cr T. D. B. Rov agreed with Cr Carman, and added that the other day he was driving a horse and van across the footpoth, and had halted the animal on the path while he opened a gateway through which he was to drive. A milk boy on a can-laden cycle came along on the footpath, and. as he had to quickly dismount to avoid Kiting the horse, he rudely demanded to know what the horse was doing on the footpath. The number of children who played on the footpaths after school hours was commented upon bv Cr W. J. Davidson, who asked whether a letter had been sent to the master of, the school, as suggested some time ago. The practice or the children playing football and cricket on the paths should be stopped. Games should be played on the recreation grounds provided for the purpose. Other councillors agr-sd that something should be done, and it was finally decided to notify the local police of the increasing misuse of the footpaths. Cr Carman added that there was one milk van that travelled along the Victoria road footpath for a certain distance at an early hour every morning.
