TRIBUTE TO ALL BLACKS

VISITING MANAGER'S CONGRATULATIONS AUSTRALIANS HAVE NO REGRETS [Piii; Ukitku Pkess Associatiox.] WELLINGTON, September 14. Unable through ill-health to see the test match, Mr E. Gowlon Shaw, manager of the Australian Rugby team, who remained in Wellington when the team went to the South Island, listened-in on Saturday. Subsequently lie paid a tribute to New Zealand’s performance in regaining possession of the Bledisloe Cup. “We have no regrets, for we are always willing to shake the hands of the winners,” he said. “ I hope the public and the players have enjoyed meeting the Australians, for ,we have tried to be sportsmen on and off the field. Wo shall be looking forward to New Zealand visiting Australia in 1938, for the All Blacks are always admired and enjoyed in Australia.” Mr Shaw said he was a little disappointed that the backs of the visiting team had failed, but he was gratified that the forwards had seemed to have done so well against New Zealand at Dunedin. He was particularly pleased with the progress on the tour of some of the younger forwards. “ I still think if we had only stood on our feet and not had all these injuries we would have turned out a jolly good side,” he, said. “We are looking forward now to having a team happy, fit, and well for the match against the New Zealand Maoris at Palmerston North, which we expect to be very enjoyable.” Congratulating New Zealand on regaining the Bledisloe Cup, Mr Shaw gave his personal congratulations to the captain, Griffiths, and the selectors. “I do hope New Zealand will be able to get together a team of All Blacks of similar calibre to meet the Springboks next year,” ho concluded.
