MOVEMENTS. —Coastal.— Wainui, which reached Dunedin on Sunday, was to sail this afternoon for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne. Breeze was due early this afternoon, and was expected to sail this evening for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. • Port Waikato was expected to leave Lyttelton to-day, and is due here in the morning to load and sail the same day for Tauranga, Auckland, and Whangarei via ports. Holmlea is due on Thursday to load out the same day for Wellington, New Plymouth, and Port Waikato via ports. Hplmdale is due on Saturday to load out for Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui via ports. Port Whangarei is now scheduled to load at Dunedin for Auckland via ports on Wednesday, September 23. Waipiata was due late this afternoon from Lyttelton. She will sail to-mor-row morning for Bluff, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. Waipahi leaves Gisborne on Thursday for Dunedin direct. She loads out on Monday for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth via ports. Waimarino is scheduled to leave Auckland on Saturday for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. She is due on Wednesday, to sail the same day for Bluff. Kaimai was to leave Westport yesterday for Lyttelton, Timaru, Oamaru, and Dunedin. She is due here on Monday. and after discharge she will sail for Westport. —Overseas.— Waikouaiti, which berthed here on Friday, is now to sail to-morrow for Timaru and Lyttelton to complete discharge of Australian cargo. She will then proceed to Bluff, Sydney, and Newcastle. Hertford is expected to sail to-mor-row for Bluff to complete discharge and commence Homeward loading. Karetu was to leave Sydney to-day for Bluff, Dunedin, Timaru, Lyttelton, and Miramar. She is due here next Tuesday. Tacoma Star, from London direct, was expected to berth at Dunedin at 4 o’clock this afternoon. She will sail later for Lyttelton. Comliehank was expected to leave Ocean Island to-day for Lyttelton and Ravensbourne. She is due in Lyttelton on September 25 and at Dunedin about October 1. Limerick, from the Pacific Coast via northern ports, is now due on Thursday. She is to complete discharge here, and is to sail next Friday for Melbourne and Sydney. She is due at Dunedin on September 22. INTERISLAND EXPRESS. The iuterisland express steamer Rangatira arrived at Lyttelton from Wellington at 6.45 this morning. Passengers and mail for the south connected with the express. LAUNCH OF THE MELBOURNE STAR. The twin-screw refrigerated cargo motor ship Melbourne Star, which was launched recently, is the latest addition to the fleet of the Blue Star Line Ltd. Built at Birkenhead by Cammed Laird and Co. Ltd., she measures 522 ft sin by 70ft 4sin., and has a raked stem, cruiser stern, one funnel, and one pole mast. There are eight main watertight bulkheads forming three holds forward atad three aft of the motor room. At the fore end of the motor room two transverse old-tight bulkheads form oil fuel bunkers. The holds and ’tween decks are insulated for the carriage of frozen and chilled meat and fruit, and a powerful installation of refrigerating machinery is installed to supply the necessary cooling medium for the insulated chambers. In a deckhouse on the passenger deck are four doubleberth and four single-berth staterooms, each with a private bathroom adjoining. The lounge, dining room, cardroom, steward’s room, doctor’s room, pantry, etc., are in a deckhouse at the fore end of the bridge deck. ‘ The vessel is propelled by two Sulzer singleacting two-stroke Diesel engines, with airless injection and direct-driven scavange pumps. The engines are directly reversible, and each has 10 cylinders 720 mm dia., and a stroke of 1,250 mm. The exhaust gases from the main engines supply the heating medium for two vertical Clarkson boilers, which heat the cabins and servo other purposes of the ship. IN RADIO RANGE.
