ESCAPE OF CONVICTS

WARDER STRANGLED TWO MEN STILL AT LARGE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright ANNECY (France), Sept. 12. Five convicts strangled a warder and escaped from prison into Switzerland, where three were arrested without resistance at Feterne. The ringleader unscrewed the lock of his cell door knocked out the warder, took the keys, and released his three fellow-convicts, who, like himself, were serving life sentence* for the attempted murder of a woman tobacconist. The warder recovered and tried to raise the alarm, but the convicts choked him with a leather strap. They went to a common cell, released one of 10 prisoners, scaled the walls, and escaped by motor car and motor cycle across the Swiss frontier. The police stopped and arrested three, and are still searching for the missing pair.
