' FINE AT FIRST The following weather report was issued at noon by the _ Meteorologist Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts —Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, River* ton, Orepuki, Biuff, Halfmoon Bay:— A depression passed rapidly eastwards yesterday, and an anti-cyclone is advancing on to the Dominion from, the Tasman Sea. A fresh depression has reached South-east Australia. Forecast: Moderate southerly winds, veering to north-westerlies and freshening. Weather fine at first, but clouds increasing shortly, and later rain developing. Sharp inland frosts to-night, but temperatures becoming milder to-morrow. Seas moderate', with a considerable but decreasing southerly swell. UNSETTLED WEEK-END. With bright sunshine apparent on Saturday afternoon, and very warm temperatures prevalent, the evening gave rise to a change about 6.30, when rain commenced to fall heavily. Yesterday saw a continuation of the fall, and this morning broke with light showers. At 12.30 p.m. to-day, only occasional showers were evident, but the indications were unfavourable,the afternoon promising to be unsettled, with cold temperatures, accentuated by a strong ''south-westerly wind. The rainfall on Saturday and Sunday totalled l.lSin, the respective falls being .52in and .61in, Temperatures over the week-end have shown a fall to low readings to-day. The maxima were:—Saturday 62deg., Sunday 47.8 deg., and, until 12.45 to-day, 47deg., with the corresponding minim# at 43, 37.6, and 40deg. Barometric pressure at noon to-day was at 29.7 in, remaining steady. ,
