The ground was dry and the Weather fine, with a strong northerly breeze, for the Taranaki- Wellington Eugby match at Athletic Park to-day. Taranaki kicked off against the wind. Wellington attacked hard, and Edwards by fas? following up scored a fine try, which Lamason converted. Wellington were again aggressive, and were thrice nearly over. Eowler relieved, and a midfield battle followed. Wellington secured the advantage, but the Taranaki defences were sound. Baldwin narrowly missed a ** Ford intercepted a long pass, and looked dangerous, but Vartan saved. The Taranaki fonvards fonght hard, but the Wellington backs were too good. Tindill just missed a pot. Wellington again attacked, and in a five-yard scrum, Taranaki were offside, and Lamason goaled. . ■ . Taranaki were penalised for luting ’ a foot in the scrurii, and Lamason narrowly missed a long kick. Brown cut around the scrum and took play upfield. Edwards saved. A long line kick by Dowdle broke through to midfield, but he was not supported, and Vartan forced. . Wellington retaliated. Baldwin mispassed to Wallace, who kicked through, and Smith snapped up with a clear field, having a 60-yard spectacular race, with Edwards.. Lamason’s kick failed. * ■. At the kick-off Vartan, the fullback, received and ran upfield. Fleming missed the return kick and Smith snapped up and scored an excellent try. Collins' converted. A fast passing movement was initiated by Barry, but Nees slipped, and from a midfield scrum Baldwin sent to Edwards, who cut through and scored. Lamason converted. The Taranaki backs were disorganised with the retirement of Dowdle. Tindell dummied through and Fleming scored.-; Lamason missed. Taranaki retaliated and Fowler was brought down on the Wellington line. From a scrum Smith dived over._ An excellent kick by Collins just missed.
