COMMUNISM v. LABOUR.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —“ Outski ” a few nights ago suggested giving running shoes to Communists. I agree with mm, but what about going on with the business? These people trade under different names—Communist Party, Friends of the Soviet Union, Movement Against War and Fascism, Students’ Radical Club, etc. Under these different cloaks the Communists are working their way into the Labour Party and trade organisations, and using these bodies as a means of spreading Communist propaganda and fooling them into passing embarrassing resolutions against the Government. The Communists opposed tho Labour Party at the last election, and, don’t be misled, they are still opEjsed to it, so that it behoves all true abourites to keep a watchful eye on their organisations and keep the Communists confined to their own party. We placed a Labour Government in power without their help and despite their opposition, so that 1 we are quite capable of carrying on without them now. Wo have obtained by constitutional and sane methods in nine months what the Communists will never obtain in one hundred years by revolution and bloodshed, ■ and 1 venture to say that there is not another country in the world that is enjoying the freedom and humanitarian legislation that we are enjoying at the present time and will continue to enjoy as long as we keep our party clean and free from all “ isms,” and carry on with the good work. In conclusion, I appeal to all trade unionists to exercise patience; don’t condemn and harrass the Government because they have not got the 40-hour week and the other fellow has. ' It is only .a matter of time when industiy will adjust itself to the new conditions and employers will find that the opening of premises _ for business on Saturday morning is not a paying proposition.— I am, etc.. Watchful. September 14.
