MANCHESTER UNITY

The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Valley Lodge, M;D.1.0.0.h., was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Albany street, on Monday evening, N.G. Bro. Buswell presiding. Advice in connection with the arrangements for the official visit to Outram Lodge on Monday was received from the district organiser. Nominations for delegates to attend the half-yearly district meeting were received and held over until next meeting. G.M. Bro. Bachop reported on a meeting of the M.U. Picnic Committee, which had fixed the date for the annual picnic for November 14. Further meetings would be held to complete arrangements. The _ officers gave a demonstration of the universal ritual, which was briefly discussed, the N.G. stating that a permit regarding its acceptance appeared on the business paper for the district meeting. The N.G. was instructed to endeavour to arrange for a lantern lecture, to be held next lodge night, the evening to be an open one Three nominations for membership were received. At the close of business progressive euchre tournament was held, members and lady friends being the guests of the lodge. The Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge held its fortnightly meeting in the M.U. Hall, Stuart street, on Tuesday evening, N.G. Bro. W. H. Masters presiding. The resignation from office of E.S. Bro. Steele was accepted with refret, the vacancies in office being filled v the appointment of the following officers:—E.S., Bro. J. F. Lyon; warden, Bro. E. Niven; guardian, Bro. W. Houliston. These officers were later installed by Lecture Master P.Q. Bro. P. Thomson and visiting officers. A suitable response was made by the new officers. An election for the appointment of eight delegates to represent the lodge at the half-yearly district meeting resulted in N.G. Bro. Masters, V.G Bro. Philip, and P.G.s Bros. Hope, Austin. Armstrong, Pithie, S. Lyon, and Bissland being appointed. The delegates were given a free hand at the meeting. It was decided to entertain members of the Leith Harrier Club next lodge night. During the meeting one new member was initiated. The annual badminton competition for the members of juvenile lodges was held in the Prince of Wales Lodge room, Port Chalmers, on Saturday, when there was a large attendance of members of the local lodges and visiting brethren from the city, among these being the president. Bro. Huntley, and members of the Juvenile Council. Entries were received from the members of four lodges—Prince of Wales. Albion, Caversham, and United. The following are the results:—Junior singles. Bro. Rose: senior singles. Bro. Johnston CPrince of Wales) ; junior doubles. Bros. Rose and Jenkins (Prince of Wales! ; senior doubles. Bros. Johnston and Clark (Prince of Wales). At the conclusion of the tournament members and visitors were entertained to supper. Bro. Huntley, president of the Juvenile Council, returned thanks to the Prince of Wales Lodge for arranging the tournament, and to those members who had assisted in various ways, especially P.P.G.M. Bro. R. S. Jack. The several competitions for juvenile lodges had now been completed, and the final results were:—lnitiation competition and quoits. Loyal Albion; shooting—seniors, Loval Oamaru ; juniors. Prince of Wn’cs, the latter lodge also winning the badminton.
