VAUDEVILLE AND COMMUNITY SING At His Majesty’s Theatre on Monday night an elaborate charity vaudeville entertainment and community sing will be held in connection with the St. Joseph’s Cathedral jubilee carnival. The song leaders will be Major F. H. Dampen and Mr Tano Fama, both of whom are well known in entertainment circles. Mr David Sharp will preside at the piano. During the evening a number of celebrity vaudeville artists have agreed to appear. Foremost among the performers is Miss Ana Hato, who will give a speci-ally-selected series of Maori items. Miss Constance Potts’s pupils will appear in attractive dance items, while Les. Carter, the famous juggler, whose professional work is known throughout Australia and' New Zealand, will present his novel 'act. Mis Anita Winkel’s competition prize winners, a charming and talented group, are busy rehearsing for the entertainment. Mr Eggers, known, as the Ventriloquist Supreme, has consented to appear, ana Mrs. Hamer arid her company will take part in a highly-diverting comedy. Gwen Webster’s pupils will present the “ Golden West ” ballet, which proved to popular at the recent competitions. Other attractive items will be those by Uncle Ben in a novelty musical turn, little Joy Gray in a Scottish character dance, and as a surprise a remarkable Chinese conjurer. The Waverley Boys’ Band will provide the overture and entr’acte, and Mr “Spud” Murphy is also on the programme. During the evening Mr Tano Fama is to give some of his famous Digger comedy specialities, which were a feature of the offerings of that company during its tours of the Dominion :-,jino years ago. Mr R. M'Kenzie will appear in person, and his life daughter will sing. In connection with Mr M'Kenzie’s appearance, the committee has arranged a special surprise. Patrons may look forward to a singularly - enjoyable experience. The committee promoting the entertainment is sanguine of presenting a night’s amusement that has seldom been surpassed in Dunedin.
