VERDI'S 'REQUIEM'
AUSTRALIAN PRESENTATION The Australian Broadcasting Commission has engaged the following principals for the performance of Verdi’s ‘ Requiem,’ which will be conducted by Dr Malcolm Sargent at the Sydney Town Hall on Wednesday night, September 30 : —Thea Philips (soprano), Dorothy Helmrich (mezzo-soprano), Lionello Cecil (tenor), and Raymond Beatty (bass-baritone). There will be a choir of 150 members, including the Commission’s Wireless Chorus and Radio Choir, which are being rehearsed by Mr G. Vern Barnett. For the choral concert in Melbourne, when Dr Sargent will conduct ‘ The Dream of Gerontius,’ the soloists will be Dorothy Helmrich (mezzo-soprano). Frederick Williamson (tenor), and Frederic Collier (bassbaritone). The choral work to be performed in Brisbane and conducted by Dr Sargent will be ‘ Music Makers,’ the principal being Heather Kinnaird (contralto). Of the principals mentioned, Thea Philips has been appearing at 4YA during the last fortnight, while Dorothy Helmrich, Lionello Cecil, Raymond Beatty, and Heather Kinnaird have toured New Zealand recently under i broadcasting engagements. r*
