BRIGADE NOTES Assistant Commissioner F. W. Ward presided over a meeting of representatives from Wanganui, Wellington, Christchurch, Blenheim, and Dunedin, who were present at the cadet officers’ conference held in Wellington on Saturday last. District-superintendent W. W. Dutton, on behalf of the Wellington district, extended a hearty welcome to the visiting delegates. Dr C. D. Henry, M.D., Surgeon in Chief for the Dominion, addressing the meeting, stated it was very encouraging to see the interest now being taken in the cadet movement, and also its advantages to the senior divisions. A lengthy agenda paper was attended to, the main item being the establishment of a Dominion Cadet Council for the benefit of the movement throughout New_ Zealand. Mr B. B. Elliot was appointed chairman, and Mr A. S. Rockerill secretary, with all district cadet officers as members of the council. A sub-committee was also set up to deal with proficiency badge tests, while uniforms competitions, senior certificates, training camps, and publicity were some of the matters referred to. In the afternoon the dominion cadet competitions were held in the Drill Hall, Wellington. The results were as follows:
Ambulance Championship Shield. (Oral, practical, teamwork, stretcher drill, and inspection.) Nine teams competed.—Christchurch Y.M.C.A. A 1, Christchurch Y.M.C.A. B 2, Christchurch No. 3, 3. Hillside (Dunedin) and Wanganui 4 (equal). Junior Shield. (Inspection, teamwork, hand-seat drill, and oral.) Six teams competed.—Wellington East 1, Wellesley College 2. Nursing Shield. (Inspection, oral, and teamwork.) Twelve teams competed.—Wellington 1, 2. _ The Dunedin Cadet Ambulance Division met at Headquarters, Moray Rlace on Tuesday evening, when, after some practical work with the triangular bandages, a talk on the circulation of the blood was given by Corpsofficer W. F. Ashman. As it is desired to build up this division to its former strength, members are requested to try and encourage new members to join. Those interested are cordially invited to attend at 7 p.m. any Tuesday evening. The No, 1 Loco Railway Division met at their headquarters, Cumberland street on Sunday, September 6, the divisional. - superintendent, D. M ‘Fie, presiding over a large attendance of members. The junior members of the division put hi some_ solid practice for the examination which is to be held to-morrow at' 10 a.m. The superintendent desires every member entitled to sit the exam, to be present, sharp to time. , At a later stage of the meeting, Ambulance-offi-cer A. Westfield, on behalf of the division, presented to the superintendent a framed enlarged photograph of the late superintendent, Mr G. R. Syder, which is to be placed in the new lecture room. With a few wellchosen remarks, Mr Westfield expressed regret at losing his services, a position he held for eight years, and at tho same time congratulating Mr Syder on his promotion to a higher sphere in the brigade. The division’s new rooms, situated close to the busy intersection of Anderson’s Bay road and Cumberland street, are filling a much-needed want at the loco depot and quite recently two cyclists, injured by motor traffic, have been attended to in the rooms by members of the division. The thanks of all members are tendered to Mr Syder for his untiring efforts to have such a 109 m providea for the division. Teams were picked for the annual Charles Tuck Memorial competition, which will take place on October 10. During the week members were on public duty at Carisbrook and also at the Central Fire Station. Associated with Assistant Commissioner Lieutenant-colonel P. H. Morey, who occupied the chair at the combined district and corps meeting held at Brigade Headquarters, Moray Place, on Tuesday evening last, were District-superintendent J. C. White, District-officer W. D. Pirritt, Dis-trict-officer G. Swanson, District,officer H. O; Marsh, Lady Corps-super-intendent Miss Applegarth, Lady Corps-officer Mrs K. Parker. Corpsofficer W. Hobby, Corps-officer P. Wilkinson. Several important _ brigade affairs were brought up for discussion and the arrangements for the Dominion championship competitions to be held in Dunedin on Labour Day are imw being finalised. A letter communicating the appointment of Lieutenant-colonel P. H. Morey as Assistant Commissioner in Charge, Otago District, Dominion of New Zealand Brigade Overseas. Vice-Lieutenant-colonel R. A. H. Fulton, transferred to tho Reserve, was received from Brigade Headquarters, St. John’s Gate, London, It is pleasing to note the services of the members as well as the work of the brigade on a whole are now being recognised by local sporting bodies. Divisions who have not yet forwarded tbeir returns of medallions and bars gained during the past year are requested to do so at their earliest convenience.
