LOST CIGARS
Smokers will be interested in , the case of Herr von Schwanthaier’s cigars, as described by ‘ The Times *■ correspondent in Vienna. In 1846 a fountain was being erected in the Freyung Square, and the design in* eluded four sculptural figures. _ They, ■were mad© and taken to Munich to be cast. While there the artist thought‘it a happy idea to fill them with boxes of. cigars (to escape duty), before sealing them. On the journey back he fell ill and did .not reach Vienna till the statues were, in position, .firmly mounted and .cementedThis week thte statues are being moved, and someone will have the opportunity of, finding., out how Havana cigars taste after 90 years in stone.
