THEFT AND RECEIVING

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS PURLIONED [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 10. Three seamen from the steamer Hertford, who were arrested in Wellington, appeared before the Police Court this morning. Thomas James Conner, aged 20, and Brendon Christopher O’Neill, aged 20, were charged with breaking and entering the shop of Arthur Eady Ltd., Auckland, on August 19 and stealing musical ’ "instruments and monev of a total value of £lO6. James John' Hawkins, aged 18, was charged with receiving from the two other accused £3 3s 4d in money and a banjo, of a total value of £3B, 8s 4d, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. Hawkins pleaded guilty to the charge of receiving, and elected to be dealt with summarily. The police said that Hawkins in a* statement said that on the voyage from London the three accused discussed the question of buying musical instruments when they reached New Zealand, but found they were too expensive. Later, the other two. men gave him a banjo and some money. ■ Hawkins was remanded for one week for sentence.

O’Neill and Conner pleaded guilty, and were committed to «he Supremo Court for sentence.
