THE 'SPORTS SPECIAL'

AGAIN A BIG BUDGET THE SECOND RUGBY TEST The chief feature of to-morrow night’s ‘ Sports Special,’ of course, will be the second Rugby test match between Australia and New Zealand at Carisbrook, but even apart from this “ star ” item it is to be a big news day, with such important interprovincial Rugby games as Wellington v. Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay v. Manawatu, Auckland v. North Auckland, and Canterbury v. West Coast. A second local fixture of importance is the Payne Trophy match between Sunnyside (Christchurch premiers) and Southern (Dunedin premiers), which will be the cur-tain-raiser at Carisbrook. Again, the Otago hockey, teams —senior and junior—play at Invercargill against Southland teams, and there is a big roster of local harrier sports meetings to be covered in the issue, together with two race meetings Wellington Trots and Wanganui Races. Amongst other attractive features should be mentioned “ Nestor’s ” article on ‘ Cricket’s Good Companions’; J. Swain’s article on the Springbok-All Black series, entitled ‘ The Battle of the Scrummages’; and ah American newspaper’s laudatory account of Lovelock’s wonderful Olympic mile.
