COMMUNITY SING
EMINENTLY SUCCESSFUL No cessation of the enthusiasm in the weekly community sings is yet evident, to which the large attendance at the Strand Theatre to-day bore striking testimony No little measure of the credit for their success is due to Mr H. P. Desmoulins, the very popular leader, whose arrangement of the attractive programmes each week is admirably supported by the public in giving wholehearted response to the choruses. The special items to-day were supSiled by the Scottish comedienne, Miss •ora Lindsay, who sang a solo as her farewell appearance, and was given a wondei'fui send-off; Mr Sansom, whose numbers ‘ A Hundred Pipers ’ and ‘ Shipmates of Mine,’ were well received ; and the All Blacks and Australian Rugby teams, who gave choruses.
An innovation was the sale of two kewpies decorated with the respective colours of the teams, which realised £1 10s in the case of the Australian mascot and 10s for the All Blacks’. The amount 'of the collection to-day was £27 10s 6d, with telephone donations still to arrive. Mr Alf. Pettitt rendered his usual fine service at the piano. -Owing'to limited-time some of the cheerios were' not ■ acknowledged, jbut will be dealt with next week.
