LONDON CLEARING BANKS NEW RECORD IN DEPOSITS (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY, September 8. . The deposits of 11 Condon clearing banks advanced in August to the new; record figure of £2,245,889,000. The figure represents an increase of £157,. 000,000 since August, 1935, and £425,000,000 since 1931. A feature of bank statements over the last 12 months, which points to increasing trad© activity and healthier financial conditions, is the growth of over £81,000,000 in advances, though about half this is accounted for by credit arranged for the French Treasury and a decline of about £3,000,000 in investments after these had doubled between 1931 and 1935. Advances, however, are still over £63,000,000 less than in 1931.
