DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE i FURTHER RISE IN BROKEN HILLS ■ Broken Hill Proprietary shares, which '£ showed considerable appreciation on the local market yesterday, again rose in value this morning, wheil buyers offered 3d more at 775, and sellers required Is 9d more at i 795. The “ rights ” offered to shareholders in connection with the flotation of Weilington Alluvials Ltd. is regarded as the chief factor in the hardening of the market. Banking issues continued in good demand, though buyers’ offers, in most cases, were- still considerably below sellers’ rev quirements. New Zoalands had further business at 39s Jd, a rise of Id on yesterday’s sale price. The market closed with ; quotations unchanged, -Commercials were wanted at 18s 3d, with sellers firm at 18s . Bd, while Unions moved up 6d to buyers - at .£9 9s fid, with sellers 2s 6d away. . Little interest was manifested in meat T preserving shares, and in the loan and i agency section Goldsbrough Morts continued -, to harden, with buyers offering 3d more ■j. without response from sellers. In the miscellaneous group industrial ■hares maintained the strong support of inv vestors. Australian Glass were a shade ! i firmer, and several other issues had unsup- : plied buyers offering slightly improved
prices. 'i The uncertainty concerning the effect of ■i' possible legislation, both in Australia and ! New Zealand, restricting the operations of chain stores, has had the effect of weaken- „ ing the market for all shares in this type of security. Coles were steady at 78s to 795, .which' is considerably below the price f ‘ of a week or two ago, Woolworth’s (Syd- .- ney) were marked.down Is fid to £5 10s fid without attracting a buyer, the ordinary ; issue of Woolworth’s (New Zealand) was for-sale at five guineas without buyers, l- : while Shillings Ltd. ■ were marked down to 14s 9d without finding a buyer.
