CHILDREN PLAYING ON STREETS.

TO THE EDITOIt. Sir, —As a resident of Eskvale street and a motor car driver, 1 strongly endorse “ Carrier’s ” complaint on this dangerous practice. It is simply nervewracking to drive between Hay View road and New street during the hours of 4 and 6 o’clock, and imposes a responsibility on drivers which is unnecessary and unfair. As it is obvious that parental control is lacking, the local body or police officer would be well advised to take some steps to obviate this dangerous nuisance before a serious accident happens. 1 am, etc., Dmver. September 9. TO THE EDITOR. Si r ,„As a resident of the locality 1 was rather amused at “ letter concerning the children of Ksk-' vale street. Boys and girls, mostly between eight and 12 years of age, have played oh streets as long as I can remember. My children and now their children have a game of football, and hitherto there have been no complaints It is plain that those children can take care of themselves, as no accident has occurred so far. As for impudence, there are no better-behaved children anywhere than on the street complained of, so why try to cast an unjust slur on parents? Hoping “Carrier” will remember tbit he once played on the streets, —I am etc., Resident. [Our correspondent should recognise that times have changed, and that streets have more perils now than formerly.—Ed., E.S.]
