SCOUT NOTES
[By Grey Wolf.] OFFICERS’ SOCIAL. All Scout and Cub officers are invited to a social evening, to be held in the Strand Salon, George street, on Tuesday next, at 8 p.m. No uniform. R.S.V.P. to Metro. Sec. by September H. WOLF CUB SECOND STAR EXAMINATIONS. There will be a second star examination on Saturday, September 19, at 1.30 p.m. for Wolf Cubs of the ninth district. Hurry up with that model and be sure to bring it with you, also a notebook and pencil. Hobbies Exhibition.—Final reminder: All entries definitely close on Saturday, September 12. Make a special effort and do your best to make your entry as large as possible. TROOP REPORTS. Ist Dunedin (Roslyn) Troop held a free-and-easy evening' on Friday last. Owing to the intense cold only games were played. After dismissal, a Court of Honour was held, and at the conclusion a snow battle, Leaders v. Officers, rounded off a very happy evening. 13th Dunedin (North-east Valley) Troop.—Friday’s attendance was somewhat smaller. Chalk football proved a good warmer before inspection, which was followed by various games to ensure continued warmth. A round-the-hall air race with paper aeroplanes caused a great deal of fun. The troop was pleased to have with it two North Dunedin Scouters, who, of course, joined in the games. Two members of the troop arranged to go to Passmore’s on Saturday, while others discussed a trip to Mount Cargill. Other arrangements wore made for the Port Road Race. The table-tennis tournament and the patrol meetings were agreed upon. 27th Dunedin (Kensington) Troop.— Last week a'number of boys took the opportunity of passing second class tests. R. Ibbotson. L. Bennie, E. Sims, and 0. Latimer all succeeded in gaining passes, and, consequently, points for tho intcrpatrol competition. Entries for the hobbies exhibition were discussed, and games and supper brought the parade to a close. A Court .of Honour was then held for P.L.s and Seconds. WOLF CUB PACKS. Ist Dunedin (Roslyn) Leopard Pack. —Owing to tho school holidays the jungle had only a small number of little wolves prowling around. Gordon Strang was successful in gaining his first star, and has now joined in with tho aspirants for second star. A welcome visitor was A.C.M. Jones, from the Panther Pack. A game of hand Soccer, Cubs v. Officers, resulted in a draw. The pack exhibit is nearing completion, as several, of the Cubs have been attending to it at Akela’s house during the school holidays., A grand howl closed the jungle. 4th (North Dunedin) Pack.—A good muster of Cubs ran in the jungle under Baloo on Thursday last, and it was decided to hold a games night. A grand howl opened proceedings, and was followed by a block relay, which was won by the White Six. After a haka practice a pow-wow was held round the campfire, and new. songs learnt. A game of jump the rope was won by Fred Graves. Mr Solomon visited the pack during the evening. 6th Dunedin (Mosgiel) Pack met round the council rock at 6.15 p.m'. A rousing grand howl was followed by an evening of various games in which the pack and officers joined. The Promise was repeated before a final grand howl, after which the pack scampered out of the jungle. Opoho.—There was a good attendance of Wolf Cubs in the den on Saturday night. George Linn came to say farewell before leaving for Timaru. Several games and competitions were enjoyed by tho little wolves, who, after a final grand howl, scampered out of the jungle.
