A man went to consult a solicitor. “ What can I do,” he asked, “ to a boy who threw a stone and broke one of my windows?” “ You can make his father pay for the damage,” replied the solicitor. “ Then,” said the man, triumphantly, “ perhaps you’ll hand me four shillings. It was your sou who did the damage.” “Is that so?” replied the solicitor. “It simplifies matters. If you hand me two-and-eight-pence wo shall be quits.”
