WILLIAM POWELL AS SLEUTH
• PRIVATE DETECTIVE 62 ’ HEADS FARE FOR STRAND Suave William Powell returns to the type of role that first won him screen recognition in ‘ Private Detective 62,’ which will be shown with ‘ Kansas City Princess,’ a comedy, atthe Strand on Friday. Once again this polished star portrays, as the title suggests, a sleuth, but one of a different order from his Philo Vance characterisations of the past. In this thrilling, highly entertaining Warner Bros, offering, Powell is a tarnished, but more interesting, spy on erring wives and wayward_ husbands. Discredited in diplomatic circles Powell is forced to employ his ferreting genius in domestic spheres. By his charm and adroitness _ he is unusually successful in a profession that is as remunerative as it is loathsome. Then he undertakes to “ get the goods ” on beautiful Margaret Lindsay, but makes the mistake of falling in love with her. Powell’s excellent work in ‘ Private Detectiv© 62 3 is said to be ably seconded by that of Margaret Lindsay, who may bo remembered from her role as the girl on the Titanic in ‘ Cavalcade/ She possesses one of the most attractive personalities to come to the screen in many a long month.
