WEST HARBOUR BOROUGH
MEETING UF COUNCIL The monthly meeting' of the West Harbour Borough Council was held last night. Present were the mayor (Mr A- Smith), Crs J. M ! Kay, J. Coutts,H. Davies. W. Forgie, F. W. Venn, J, h. Page, F. Hudson, J. Robb, and T. F. Rodger. The deaths of several residents «i the district recently were referred to by the Mayor, who said that Mr W. Barclay was a former .mayor of the borough, and Mr A. Bilsborough and Mrs M. Lind were two old residents of the district.—A motion of sympathy with, the relatives was passed. The city electrical engineer wrote advising that-his department would be responsible for the installation of new lamps in the Roseneath district and for the maintenance and renewal of poles and wires, but the council'would have to supply lamps and Jabpur for replacing them.. The circuit would be controlled by a time switch Hudson said that everything was in order and that ithe new lights at Roseneath would be installed. The Inspector reported;—At Junction road the water tables have been finished. Tar patching on the main road has been carried on as far as Sawyers Bay, and should be completed this week. Stone has been quarried for. Grant, Manuka, and Ross streets. General work is being done at the following places: • —Reformation of the roads in Ross street, Ravensbourno road, and Manuka street; footpaths in Burkes, and in several parts widened; a start has been made with Shannon street, Roseneath; work is being carried out at the St. Leonards School. The following' work, already passed by the council, remains to be carried out;' —Drains are to be laid in the main road at Sullivan’s, Ascog road, and ' Burkes. Drains are to be laid at King's and Woodhead’s, St. Leonards. The wall has to be erected in the creek at Smith’s. The hand rail is to bo attended to in Burkes street. Further work is to, he carried out on the Ross street extension. Repairs are to be effected in Athol Place and Grant > street. • Shannon- street, Clyde street, and District road, Roseneath, still remain to be repaired. • The Finance Committee reported that the amount collected during the month was £459 11s Bd. Accounts amounting to £365 6s 4d had been passed for payment, and this would leave a debit balance of £7lB 11s lOd.
