ATTACKED BY MOHMAND TRIBESMEN

An ambush of troops, with heavy casualties, is reported from the NorthWest frontier in India. A few weeks ago a force of British and Indian troops occupied ,a position in the Mohmand area during negotiations with tribesmen following a disturbance in that region. Early yesterday a company engaged on a reconnaissance movemeat westwards from Nahakki Pass was attacked by greatly superior numbers of tribesmen who had been in close concealment. •
Hand-to-hand fighting took place, and there were heavy casualties on both sides. One British officer was killed, and two are missing. One of these is believed to he killed. Two Indian officers are missing,and three British and two Indian officers were wounded. In other ranks 34 are reported missing and 46 wounded.
