JUSTICES OF THE PEACE ASSOCIATION
CONCERTS AT WARRINGTON AND SEAGLIFF Excellent concert programmes were presented by the Otago Justices of the Peace Association on Saturday at the .Tames Powell Rest Home at Warrington, and at the Seacliff Mental Hospital. . . Members of the association, with Bcgg’s Orchestra and a concert party under the direction of Mr J. F. Himburg, left by bus and cars in tlie afternoon, and their first call was at the James Powell Rest Home at Warrington. After the visitors had been shown through the home and over the grounds the patients and staff were treated to vocal and instrumental items by the concert party. On behalf of _ the Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society, the agent, Mr Steven, welcomed the party to the home, and thanked those responsible for arranging such a peasant afternoon. The matron also extended a welcome, and < Mr M'Fariaue, president of the association, replied. After partaking of afternoon tea, the whole party left for Seacliff. •• nd there gave a very enjoyable evening’s entertainment to the patients at the Mental Hospital. The programme consisted of selections by Begg’s Orchestra; violin solos by Miss N. Garland and Mr Morris ; and songs by Miss Darracott, Mrs Hastfe, Mr G. Simpson, and Master H. Claridge. Miss A. Duggan and Mr A. Pettitt played the accompaniments. The concluding item on the programme was a community sing led by Mr Himburg. and this was followed by a dance. Before the evening closed, Dr H. I). Hayes, medical superintendent, on behalf of the staff, heartily thanked the Justices of the Peace Association and the concert party for the delightful evening they had given, and Mr M'Farlane replied.
