EGG EXPORT SEASON
SHIPMENTS TO LONDON OTAGO CONSIGNMENTS Otago exporters of eggs expect to ship about 3,000 crates, each containing 30 dozen eggs, to London this season. Already 502 crates were shipped by the New Zealand Star on September 5, while the Middlesex will load about 1,300 crates either to-morrow or the next day, and on October 20 it is hoped to ship' another 1,000 crates by the Akaroa. The egg season, which usually commences about the middle of September, is a very brief one, as it pays to expoit only during the flush of the season. The season normally ends in the first week of November, but, owing to the heavy demand to supply the Christmas market in London, export will probably continue later than usual in the South Island. Already 0,000 crates have been sold by Canterbury producers, and they will be exported as space allows.
