CHILDREN IN TRAIN SMASH
COOLNESS AND INITIATIVE 5 PRAISED [Psk Unwed Phbss AasociATioa.y INVERCARGILL, September S 7, Reference to the splendid behaviour of the 61 children who were involved in the Edendale train smash was made at a meeting of the Southland Education Board to-day by Mr H. Smith, who said that the boys on the train had been coolness itself and had rendered every possible assistance. He was very proud of them. = ' Mr W. Bell supported Mr-Smith’s remarks, and referred particularly to the presence of mind of the girls. When all the children had been got out and the train was on fire one of the girls had gone back and had thrown put all their belongings. The chairman (Mr S. Rice]) also commended the action of the children. He said they had been taught discipline and a sense of duty, and it was gratifying that they had displayed initiative and presence of mind in going about the work of relief in such a splendid way. >
