ARMY MECHANISATION
REPLACEMENT OF HORSE UNITS Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, September 27. The ‘Daily Mail’ says: “Following the success of the mechanisation of the Army units, including a squadron of the 3rd Hussars, tested at the manoeuvres on September 19, the War Office is replacing the Army’s horses as fast as money is available, although it is retaining a few cavalry units because of Imperial commitments, notably the Indian frontier, where horses are essential. Engineers and signallers, if money is available, will be without horses- within a, period of three years, and artillery motorisation will be completed in five years. The Army is moving towards a mobile division capable of travelling ‘ from 120_ to 150 miles a day, and the mechanised , infantry division is capable or covering 40 miles a day- compared with the present 15 miles.’’ .
