EXCHANGE AND OTTAWA.

TO THE EDITOB. Sir,—“ Democrat Digger ” is absolutely wrong in saying that the raising of our exchange was a breach of the Ottawa agreement. His language is “sultry,” and shows a bitter and biased mind. It has been admitted in England that the raising of New Zea-land-London exchange to the same level as Australia-London was inevitable, and in no way a breach of the Ottawa agreement. The question _of currency was discussed at Ottawa, and it was deft to each dominion and England to' act as they deemed best, subject to any decision arrived at by the international currency conference. That conference was abortive. The best evidence to show that Britain does not consider the New Zealand exchange policy as in any way hostile to her interests is the fact the New Zealand credit is higher in London to-day than at any time in our history—vide the recent conversion loan.—l am, etc., SCRUTATOR.
