MANCHESTER UNITY
The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Dunedin Lodge, held on Thursday evening, was presided over by N.G. Bro. J. Lees, who extended a welcome to a number of visiting brethren. The main business of the evening was the consideration of the order paper for the half-yearly district meeting, this resulting in an interesting discussion, particularly on the remit relating to appropriated surpluses, which is sponsored by the District Executive.' On behalf of the trustees of the Dunedin Lodge P.G. Bfo. Alexander outlined the position as at present in regard to the lodge, maintaining that the present method was satisfactory, and that the remit 'should he rejected. P.P.6.M. Bro. ,A. Sligo, provincial secretary, pointed out the difficulties. experienced by lodge secretaries in keeping the numerous surplus accounts, each successive surplus necessitating the opening of new sets of accounts. The 1929 surplus would require over 140 accounts. The District Surplus Committee strongly recommended the scheme propounded, as being much to the advantage of the district, while the proposed action was in keeping with recommendations made by the actuary to the Friendly Societies* Department. After a full discussion it was decided to support the remit, the N.G. expressing appreciation to the speakers for their explanation of it. The delegates to the district meeting are:—N.G. Bro. Lees, V.G. Bro. Fulton,, P.G.s, Bros. Crosbie. B. D. Cameron, Barrowclough, and Knox. The Loyal Mosgiel Lodge held its fortnightly meeting in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Mosgiel, on Tuesday evening, N.G. Bro. H. Carr presiding over a fair attendance of members. A letter was received from the secretary of the Loyal Outram Lodge, outlining arrangements for the sixtieth anniversary r of that lodge, which is being held in conjunction with the half-yearly meeting of the District Committee. Owing to the resignation of Bro. Bacon as delegate P.G. Bro. J. 0. Thomspn was appointed in his stead. One proposition for membership was received. The N.G. stated that arrangements were well in band for next lodge night, when the annual official visit from sister lodges would be. held, A debate had been set down for the following lodge night, October 15. The quarterly accounts were passed for payment, and general business dealt with. *
