“SCREEN FOR HYPOCRITES”
THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS SENATOR BORAH'S OUTBURST Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright WILDER (Idaho). September 26. The League of Nations has become a screen for hypocrites who are trying to divide the territory of Europe,” said Senotor Borah while addressing an audience of farmers. He warned them to fight for sovereignty in matters pertaining to the Constitution as that document was the only protection they had on God’s earth. After noting that war involving the European nations appeared only too probable, he recalled recent statements by the spokesman for Britain to the effect that the United States must defend the peace of the
world, “ but it is likely at the back of the peace of the world is a thing that concerns Britain a great deal more—that is the'territory she has down there around Ethiopia. Signor Mussolini has discovered there are some vast natural resources in Ethiopia, and has a hankering for them. Ethiopia has committed the crime of being a small nation in possession of vast riches, so she is to be punished. I venture to say that if the people of Italy# had the kind of Constitution you have, with the power to express themselves, the right of free speech, the right to discuss whether or not .they should go into war, there, would be no war in Europe.” Time and again Senator Borah was interrupted by applause.
