LIKELY OPPONENTS
PALMER IN ENGLAND Three men have been named as likely to provide Palmer’s first opponent. They are Eddie Wristob (Canada), Ben Foord (Canada), and Eddie Phillips (England). As a simple business precaution it is unlikely that Palmer will be asked to face Len Harvey, the British light-heavy-weight champion, at the outset. The logical match appears to be with Wristob. Success would bring Foord and Phillips in succession, and the climax an Empire title match with •Hijrvey (says the ‘ Sporting Globe ’). Should Palmer complete the full programme with success, his next “ natural ” match would be with Petersen for the Empire heavy-weight title. Such a programme would enrich him to the extent of several thousands w thou course to trying his fortune in America. And even if he should fail early he will not be out of pocket. Palmer was 24 a fortnight ago—and incidentally the fourth anniversary of his wedding was on September 11. He considers he has not more than two or three years of boxing ahead of him and that his only chance of getting anything substantial out of his prowess is to go where there is good money. In that all will agree with him and wish him the luck to which a good fellow and a good boxer is entitled.
