NEW FARE FOR MAYFAIR
FINE COMEDY AND UNUSUAL DRAMA Sparkling comedy and delightful characters should provide first-class entertaimnent for South Dunedin audiences in ‘ Mrs Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch,’ the comedy which will open at the Mayfair to-morrow with ‘ British Agent.’ It is a story that should appeal to everyone because it touches very closely on the doings of everyday life, the monotony of which is driven away by Mrs Wiggs’s serene philosophy and a series of somewhat unusual incidents —incidents of a sort, however, which might happen to anyone, and certainly they are touched with every semblance of reality. Pauline Lord has an outstanding role as Mrs Wiggs, while Zasu Pitts as Miss Hazy, and W. C. Fields as Stubbing need no commendation. An exceedingly large cast was selected for the roles in ‘ British Agent.’ Two of the most popular stars of the day, Leslie Howard and Kay Francis, head a list of 20 talented players in important speaking parts. The picture was inspired by the best-selling novel by R. H. Bruce Lockhart, internationally famous author, and portrays his own life during the flaming days of the Russian Revolution, SPECIAL BIRTHDAY MATINEE. On the occasion of the first anniversary of the opening of the Mayfair Theatre, a huge birthday cake has been made, and every child attending the morning or afternoon session at the Mayfair Theatre to-morrow will receive a piece. In order to give the children a real treat, a special programme has been arranged, with the result that no fewer than four cartoons will be shown with ‘ Mrs Wiggs .of the Cabbage' Patch,’ They will include a Mickey Mouse offering, as well as a Pop-eye creation and a coloured Betty Boop cartoon.
