PREPARING THE ROLLS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—On reading to-night’s ‘ Evening Star ’ I notice that 10,000 names have been removed from the five rolls for non-compliance with the law requiring electors to notify the authorities of change of address. In conversation with, a resident of Dunedin West a few days ago, he informed me that he had been to the office of the registrar of electors a few weeks ago to see that both ha and his wife w r ere on the roll. He was surprised to find both names struck off.' On asking the young lady attendant the reason, he was asked if he had shifted, or had the street number been altered, or had he and his wife been absent from the house for any period. On being informed that he had resided in the same house for 10 years, the number had not been altered,, neither he nor his wife had been away, from the house for over a year, nor had he received any notice to be filled in and returned, no explanation for the deletion was forthcoming. Can the registrar of electors give a satisfactory, explanation?—l am, etc., Dunedin Central. September 25. [The registrar states that an exhaustive examination fails to disclose the name of the person referred to on the roll for Dunedin West either for the 1931 election or for the coming eleotion.—Ed. E.S.]
