She* is expected to . sail for Timaru this evening. Orepuki is due from Wellington tomorrow and) is to sail the same day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. Titoki is due from Westport via Oaraaru to-morrow to discharge coal. She is to sail the same day for Lyttelton. Parera is due from Wellington tomorrow, and is to 'sail in the evening for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, New Plymouth, and Port Waikato. Earn, the Union Company’s new coaster, is expected from Wellington on Monday morning. She is to sail the same day for Oamarn, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth.
Holmdale is due from Wanganui and Wellington on Monday,, and is to sail the same day for Oamarn, Timaru. Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton. and Wanganui. Storm is due from Wanganui via ports on Tuesday, and is to sail the same day for the north.
Port Whangarei is to leave Auckland to-morrow for Dunedin via Wellington and Lyttelton. She is clue on Wednesday, and is to sail the same day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Tauranga, Auckland, and Port Whangarei. She will then proceed to Tonga. TRANSPACIFIC MAIL SERVICES. —Northbound. — Monowai left Sydney on September 12 and Auckland on September 17 for Vancouver via Suva and Honolulu. She is due at Vancouver on October 4. Monterey left Sydney on September 18, and Auckland on September _2l for Los Angeles and San Francisco via Suva, Pago Pago, and Honolulu. She is due at Los Angeles on October 5 and San Francisco on October 7. Makura left Sydney to-oay, and is to leave Wellington on October 1 for San Francisco via Rarotonga, Papeete. She is due at San Francisco on October 18. Niagara is to leave Sydney on October 10 and Auckland on October 15 for Vancouver via Suva and Honolulu. She is due at Vancouver on November 1
Mariposa is to leave Sydney on October 16 and Auckland on October 19 for San Francisco via Suva, Pago Pago, Honolulu, and Los Angeles. She is duo at Los Angeles on November 2 and San Francisco on November 4.

INTERISLAND EXPEESS._ The iuterisland express steamei Rangatira reached Lyttelton from Wellington at 6.40 a.m. to-day., Passengers and mail for the south connected with the express. NGAKUTA ARRIVES. The Union Company’s steamer Ngakutii arrived-yesterday afternoon .from Grafton, Port Stephens, and Newcastle via Bluff. She was berthed at the Birch street wharf to discharge general cargo and timber. The Ngakuta will com plete discharge at Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Greymouth. 1 AKAROA LEAVES BALBOA. The ‘ Akaroa, eu route from Southampton to Wellington, left Balboa on the evening of September 20. She is due at Wellington on October 9 to land passengers only, and is to leave the same day for Lyttelton and Port Chalmers to discharge. PORT HUNTER FROM LIVER POOL The Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Hunter was despatched from Liverpool on Septembei 16 with cargo from Glasgow and Liverpool for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and New Plymouth. She is scheduled to reach Auckland about October .23. PHOSPHATE CHARTERS. The following British ships have been chartered to load phosphates at Nauru or Ocean. Island for New Zealand or Australia: —Antonio, Aymeric, Comliebank, Comeric, Oakbank, Springbank The Queen Maud is to load at Ocean Island for Australia or New Zealand. NGA TORO FOR LYTTELTON. . Cabled advice has been received by the Union Company that the Ngatoro cleared Newcastle last Saturday for Lyttelton, where she is due next Saturday. MAHANA LEAVES LIVERPOOL. Tlie Maheno left'Liverpool'on Saturday afternoon with" cargo for Australia, She is to load Homeward in New Zealand early in December. PERSONAL. Mr W- Cole has been engaged as first mate of the Tamahine, relieving Mr W. J. Hill. Mr J. M. G. Cleary has been engaged as purser of the Karetu. Mr C. Sparks has been engaged as purser of the Rangatira, relieving Mr A.‘ E. Ednmndson. PORT SOCONY. Port Socony,, said to be the most modem marine terminal and one of the largest projects of its kind in America, was officially opened on July 18. Port Socony covers 257 acres on Staten Island, New York, and it is anticipated that more than 100 tankers and scores of barges will load and unload each year at the new port, which can handle more than a quarter of a billion gallons of petroleum products during a 12-month period. Port Socony, which will now be the chief base of the Vacuum Oil Company’s marine operations on the Atlantic Coast, has been in construction for a year. A channel I,oooft in length has been dredged, ‘ with a maximum width of 400 ft. Three large tankers and 11 barges can occupy the 2,000 ft steel bulkhead at one time. The most advanced fire-fighting equipment of its kind is a feature, of the new port. Miles of piping have been laid out to achieve simplicity and directness, being constructed to carry fuel wherever required. IN RADIO'RANGE.
