BOWLERS’ BILLIARDS

At the Caledonian Club’s pavilion last evening a smoke concert was held to do honour to those who had won trophies during the winter months in connection with the Bowlers’ Billiard Association, which governs the games. Mr J. Seddon (president of the Caledonian Club) presided, and associated with him were Mr J. Read (president of the Dunedin Bowling Centre), Mr .1. Buist (chairman of the Billiard Association), and representatives of a number of the bowling clubs of the city. The Chairman stated that the object of the gathering was to .present the prizes won during the season, and he called on Mr Buist to perform that duty. Mr Buist congratulated the Caledonian Club on wnining the Henaghan billiard banner for 1985. The consistent play of the members of the club had enabled them to come out on top. .He also stated that when the final round of the competition was about to be played it was possible for any of the four leading teams to' have won it.

The opportunity was also taken to present prizes to the winner and run-ner-np of the of champions singles billiard competition. Mr A. Lindsay, of the Roslyn Club, was the winner, having defeated Mr L. Hill, ot the Kaituna Club, after an excellent game. Mr J. Hope, of the North-east Valley Club, won the prize for the highest break. Eulogistic references were made by various speakers to the great assitunce rendered by Mr W. T. Henaghan to the Billiard Association. Besides being tlie donor of the banner, ho had been a great worker in the endeavour to arrange and carry out the winter programme, and his financial help had been of great assistance to an institution that really had no means of getting funds. Smith proposed “ The Billiards Committee,” and Mr W. Walton that of “ The Visitors.” Musical items were rendered by friends of the club.
