DAMAGE BY FROST
CENTRAL FRUIT CROPS AFFECTED LIGHTER YIELD ANTICIPATED Persistent frosts during the past few weeks are reported to have seriously affected the fruit crops in certain parts of Central Otago, and it is stated that as a result the yield will be lighter than for several seasons. It is the early apricots that have suf-i fered mostly from the prevalent frosts, which have varied in intensity in the Alexandra district from lOdeg to 17deg,. The blossom is now gradually coining out on the trees, but the development of the buds is being retarded by the frosts. The peach trees will' snortly come into blossom, and growers are hoping for the cessation of the frosts. It is anticipated that the crop of apples will be lighter than usual as a result of the very Cold weather. The snow on the mountains, which is lying lower than It usually does at this time of the year, is a never-ceasing cause of worry to growers. This morning it was reported that the frost was not so heavy as it has been recently.
