BOARD'S MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Technical College Board was held yesrday, and was attended by Messrs J. . Marlow, C. J. Hayward, H. H. ohnson, P. L. Lawrence, J. T. Paul, ... Sanderson, Mrs Herbert, and Miss L. Sullivan. Prior to the commencement of the business Mr Marlow was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr Sanderson was appointed vice-chair-man. NEW COMMITTEES. Conveners of the various committees made the following recommendations in respect of committees .of the board for the current year:— Appointments (concerned with appointments, institution of classes, reports on courses and teachers, initiation of questions of buying new or of discarding -old equipment, meeting as required).—Mr J. T. Paul (convener), Mrs W. Herbert, Miss L. Sullivan, Messrs L. Sanderson and T. Scott. Works and Finance (concerned with improvements to buildings and grounds, purchase of equipment, accounts, and all questions involving expenditure, meeting separately and jointly onco a month, generally a week before the hoard). —Finance: Messrs C. J. Hayward (convener), H. H. Leary, and H. H. Johnson. Works: Messrs P, L. Lawrence (convener), W. W. Batchelor, and J. Sneppard. Executive (concerned with major questions—levelling of sites, large financial undertakings, etc.—meeting when so directed by board meeting or in time of special emergency).—Chairman (convener), deputy-chairman, and conveners of committees. The recommendations were adopted without discussion. CORRESPONDENCE. An application from the Y.W.C.A. for use ot the college tennis courts during the coming season was referred to the Works Committee with power to act. An intimation was received from the Chamber of Commerce that it was donating £3 3s for prizes in commercial subjects for 1935. The Education Department advised that a decision upon radio equipment for the college had been held over until after the visit of inspectors late in September. The Otago Ladies’ Cricket Association requested the co-operation of the Technical. College in a secondary schools’ cricket competition.—lt was decided _to reply that investigations were being made into the possibility of establishing a team and if considered satisfactory the board would accede to the request. The Education Department intimated that the board’s application for an additional grant in connection with a tool grinder had been declined.—Received. A pamphlet was received from the New Zealand Council for Education Research on ‘ School Entrance Age Investigation.’ A notification of the Education Department’s progress with the plans for the art wing was received, and also telegrams from the Hon. W. Downie Stewart and Hon. S. G. Smith, stating that Cabinet had approved of a grant. . FINANCE. The Finance Committee reported that there was a credit balance m the current • account of £428 17a 6d, and accounts due for payment amounted io £214 16s Id. An increase or 7£ per cent, in the salaries of the board’s staff would mean a total annual increase of £9O 18s, which was to be compared with an expected total increase in income of about £2OO. The report was adopted. INTEREST OF PARENTS. With the object of maintaining the. parents’ representatives on the board it was decided to call a meeting of parents late in October.
